Re: Super Duper Deluxe 4-Disc Version - US
Bought mine, this morning, at Crash Records in Leeds - their last copy! HMV said they'd sold out all their copies yesterday!! It looks fantastic, but haven't played anything yet as only just arrived home. Will post a 'review' later.

Re: Your biggest disappointment in Alice's career
I must be a very perverse AC fan because, IMO, 'ACAS' is brilliant - striking cover, wonderful booklet, witty, stylish, inventive music - and would easily get into my top ten AC albums. I also consider 'PFY' and 'EA' to be proto-garage mini-masterpieces, love the ballads - 'I Never Cry' especially -...

Re: AC Make 'Weird' List
Yes, totally agree with your last two sentences, and would add a dearth of radio play, hostile music press etc. 'WTMN' was a huge chart success in North America and Australia but here, although an improvement on 'MOL', it's high of number 19 was only a partial recovery of fortunes. Again, there were...

I thought it was excellent. He's done a number of other AC 'tutorials' - especially liked 'Dept. Of Youth'.

Re: AC Make 'Weird' List
Oh well, judging by the response, as far as ST's go I'm probably in a minority of, er, one regarding the 'excellent' tag. One thing I've always been convinced of, re-'School Days', is that WB's decision to repackage 'PFY/EA' - in order to cash in on 'BDB's UK success - directly impacted on AC in a n...

UK Amazon's price has been up and down like a yo-yo; first at £30 then up to £38, next down to £33 now back up to £38. I'm going to see whether HMV in Leeds or Sheffield have it in next week, as they seem to be lowering their prices lately whilst Amazon's are increasing. ...too many threads have fal...

Re: Is the new album imminent?
At the root of these discussions there's something of a dichotomy, namely: do musicians owe the 'fans' anything? Are artists - especially long-standing ones - so dependent on 'our' goodwill, to sustain their careers, that they have to musically genuflect to 'us'? Personally, I quite admire contraria...

AC Make 'Weird' List
Mojo music magazine has just published a list, compiled from readers' choices, of the 50 'weirdest albums ever'. And, just for a change, AC are actually on it - at eighteen! - with 'Pretties For You'. They dub it a 'hyperactive kaleidoscope'! When I first bought 'PFY' and 'EA' back in '73, after the...

Re: Is the new album imminent?
A few more titbits from Alice here. We knew there were going to be a number of original songs, but he's put those into context now by saying they'll be setting up the story of his DDFs. That's sounds quite conceptual and really interesting. He mentions The Small Faces for the first time; hope we get...

Re: unsung heroes
Well, I heard that Mrs Mills tickled the ivories on 'Crazy Little Child', Reginald Dixon phoned in his 'Hard Hearted Alice' organ direct from Blackpool's Tower Ballroom PLUS Sherlock Holmes himself dug out that old Stradivarius for 'Big Apple Dreamin'. And you thought it was only 'Teenage Lament' th...

Re: Comparing Alice and Alex Harvey
There are definitely some similarities between SAHB and ACG: - a love of theatricality; songs that tell a story; powerful vocals that veer between menacing/ macabre and raw tenderness; facial makeup for AC/ZC; a penchant for long, pyscho-dramatic epics e.g. 'Halo Of Flies' vs 'The Faith Healer' plus...

Re: Planet Rock's countdown of the top 20 hellraisers
This is absolute nonsense, of course. There was a television programme which did something similar. I can't think of anyone less deserving of that title than Alice, even during the worst of his addictions. I agree. Of all the polls for Alice to feature in it has to be this load of twaddle. AC was n...

Re: Alice Cooper and rock history
This is one of the best posts ever on this site (although I'm not sure about "the Bowie brigade" part as there are people here who admire him as well). Thanks for the compliment! Just to clarify - I should have added 'at my school' re-Bowie/prog rockers. I loved DB's records back then, but the reve...

Re: Alice Cooper and rock history
With the passage of time, it's easy to forget just what 'outsiders' ACG were. The music business, in general, didn't 'warm' to them, the critics mostly sneered and the press trashed them. Politicians railed against them, 'morality' campaigners were up in arms and the church even waded in to denounce...

Re: Alice Cooper and rock history
I am at a loss to explain how a book that is so detailed, once again makes the same omission and emphasises others at the expense of Alice Cooper. Can anyone else explain it? Well, I think it just bears out what I've posted on other threads. Alice Cooper, although hugely popular chart-wise, were mo...

If you're asking 'tough' questions then that should mean NO chicken, NO Ouija board and NO golf! Here's a few, some 'tough' some not: How do you feel about Michael Bruce not being mentioned once throughout the entire 'Super Duper Alice Cooper' film? Christianity has made you 'draw a line in the sand...

Re: Lefsetz discusses 'Supermensch'
What I can never understand about a segment of Alice's fans in their absoulte unwillingness to accept anything other than the "classic" Alice. Some are so caught up in the original band that broke up in 1974-(that's 40 years ago--my God!) while others want Welcome To My Nightmare to be re-written a...

Re: Alice Cooper's DaDa- Albums Unleashed w/Dick Wagner
I can't believe you are comparing trite like Freedom to Elected. The lyrics are just an embarrassment. Freedom to talk my arse. I quite like 'Freedom', despite KR's Spinal Tap guitar, but I also like your pithy irreverence. If only Alice had actually sung your final sentence! (The album's a load of...

Re: it really is Super Duper
First off, I agree with everyone's criticism over the lack of a Michael Bruce mention. Surely, this was purposeful, I don't see how it couldn't be. Alice's recent interviews saying they "couldn't find him" comes off as very cringeworthy, however Here's a bit more on the MB 'mystery', from a long in...

Re: Alice Cooper's DaDa- Albums Unleashed w/Dick Wagner
The great thing about Alice's longevity it that he is defined by five generations of fans. How many bands/artists can say that? Well, there's Jerry Lee Lewis who's still going strong. There's also the small matter of Bob Dylan, The Stones, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Neil Diamond and Paul Simon...
