Re: Social Debris
I've listened to Social Debris a dozen times now, and am still of the opinion that the song's an inconsequential piece of polished fluff. The last time he really stretched out was Might As Well Be On Mars ; thirty years ago. The last time he released an album that was truly different was Brutal Plan...

Re: Social Debris
I like the guitar(s) - nice & punchy - but not the song. It sounds like a cast-off from RYF&Y.

Re: Detroit Stories Review
Is the six page article any good? Not really. It's basically about how the band fitted into the '69/'70 Detroit 'scene'; with particular reference to MC5 & The Stooges. The new album gets a couple of paragraphs. Apparently they'd considered asking Iggy to feature on it, but then ruled that out as to...

Detroit Stories Review
The latest edition of Uncut magazine has a short review of the album (plus a six page article on the band's early days in Detroit). Although the reviewer highlights a couple of tracks - Social Debris & Independence Dave - overall he's not too impressed. Calling it " more Nugent than Stooges ", he st...

Re: New single - 'Our Love Will Change The World'
Carbon copy of the Outrageous Cherry original. I like the song, but what's the point? At least with Rock & Roll - which I rated - they conjured up a bit of extra 'oomph'. Here though, it's just chug through, adding absolutely nothing. Perfunctory, and pointless.

Re: Detroit Stories first song "Rock 'N' Roll" to be available Fri 11-13-20
Well, I really liked it on first listen; and still do. As I didn't buy the EP, it's not a problem that the Breadcrumbs songs are on the album; they've grown on me. So far, Ezrin has kept it pretty tight; more garage, rather than hard rock/metal. I hope it doesn't fall apart, mid-way, re 'comedy' tra...

It resembles the Mitch Ryder cover far more than the VU original, although Alice's vocals are better and Ezrin beefs up the arrangement. According to Amazon next release is Our Love Will Change The World, Dec 11th.

Re: Detroit Stories first song "Rock 'N' Roll" to be available Fri 11-13-20
Better than I anticipated. Ezrin reins in the kitchen sink approach for a tight groove. Reminiscent of Dead Flies ; more Hendrix than Velvets. Vocals are strong - I like it when Alice slips into the higher register - whilst guitars & drums are 'in yer face'. Love that organ sound too. Excellent star...

Re: New album cover
First single is 'Rock'n'Roll' and it's yet another cover, this time that well known Detroit band Velvet Underground.... (they're from NYC) Apparently Lou Reed WROTE it in Detroit.. kinda tenuous surely... I think it's more to do with Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels putting it out as a single in '7...

Re: Alice on Top of the Pops
I remember Tony Blackburn having a very brief chat to Alice, re Elected , on the 9th November '72 show. Following the Mary Whitehouse/Leo Abse furore - tabloid hysteria & double page spreads of BDB's mascara baby - TOTP (and Radio One) gave the subsequent singles short shrift. Despite them all climb...

Re: biblical touch
Ignoring WTMN does anyone else think The Last Temptation and Brutal Planet are both his strongest solo albums lyrically and musically? I think they are certainly his strongest post-Warner Brothers albums. But, for me, after Alice 'cleaned up', and left WB, he lost the magical x factor. Obviously, f...

It's dire stuff from all three of them. Neal Smith's is particularly awful; dreadful cover too.

Re: New song and video "Don't give up" coming!
Like Paranormal and Breadcrumbs, three years from now this song will be relegated to the forgotten bin. I listened once and that was it for me. I feel exactly the same. The spoken bits are okay, but the rest sounds like a third-rate Brutal Planet cast off. This was a golden opportunity for Alice to ...

Re: Breadcrumbs
Listened to it a few times on Spotify . I enjoyed Seger's Gloria rip-off the best. Overall I find the ep 'okay', in the same way the majority of Alice's post- Brutal Planet studio albums have been 'okay'. Personally, I wish he'd move out of his retro-rock comfort zone, and chuck in more musical curv...

Re: Lou Reed - Rock and Roll Animal
Reed obviously wanted some uber-commercial 'classic rawk' - chart clawback after Berlin 's US pasting - but I can't stand it. That awful three and a half minute, widdly widdly, intro to Sweet Jane sets the tone: loads of 'tasteful', antiseptic, guitar grandstanding. (Ditto the WTMN tour.) For me, it...

I think the giant baby is hilarious; pure panto at its finest. My Stars is a fantastic track, but their retro metal squall doesn't fit at all; indeed, it spoils a number of the songs. The hair-metal tracks sound good though, as they suit the band's style...... Teenage Frankenstein is pretty epic her...

Re: Rise - First reviews
Who's Laughing Now has a T.Rexy swing, but the rest is, mostly, bombastic nonsense. There's lots of stodgy metal plod; the covers add nothing (again); redundant 'intervals'; pointless, elongated codas. As for Bushwackers & Rise - aka Chas & Dave & Vindaloo - 'laughable rubbish' doesn't even begin t...

Re: Interesting (from Popoff book)
Whichever way you look at things, at root it's a question of morality & ethics (rather alien bedfellows in the music business). Alice waltzed off with the brand name - his strings pulled by a.n. other - leaving the other four high and dry. The latter refrained from legal action (out of a misplaced s...
