Re: Zappa, his parents, and Pretties For You

I'm idly curious to know whether the painting is on his wall because of the album cover, or if it is the album cover because it was on his wall.

Zappa, his parents, and Pretties For You

Boing Boing, a site I have never really got the hang of, has posted a photo of Zappa at home with his parents, taken in 1971. The painting on the wall behind him is pretty recognisable. http://boingboing.net/2015/01/09/rock-stars-of-the-70s-and-the.html?utm_source=moreatbb&utm_medium=nextpost&utm_ca...

Alice and The Mighty Boosh

I was watching something tonight and remembered a while back (pages found on Google suggest two or more years ago) that there was talk, strong rumours even, of a collaboration on a musical by Alice and the Mighty Boosh. Did that ever come to anything, was it anything other than rumour, has it been s...

Re: Inspired/borrowed/lifted from Alice

Kate Bush's "Wow" has an intro that always reminds me of Former Lee Warmer.

Re: Usher Hall gig

For a gig that I knew had little theatrics and four covers, I was blown away. Just amazing in terms of music and energy. The sheer musicianship of every member of the band means they are a joy to listen to, and their individual stage presence makes them a pleasure to watch. See at the end of Dirty D...

Re: He's Back

I was happy to see it added, as it's a catchy song, but it was only when I was down the front in Edinburgh - my sole gig of the tour - that I realised and appreciated that it is the first time I have ever heard Alice play something from the albums that got me into him. I picked Constrictor and Raise...

Amazing show. Good to meet James. Heading home with Alice's cane and Orianthi's pick. What a great gig :)

I'm heading from Glasgow. Not sure where the venue is or how best to get there from Waverly.

Re: Favourite Alice Story

Steve Wright interviewing Alice on Radio 2, about a decade ago.

"I lost my bank.card, and I went into the bank to get a new one. They looked it up, and said 'we have fifteen Alice Coopers.' I said yeah, mine will be the 'mister.'"

I'd love him to collaborate with Aggrotech pioneers Combichrist.

I see a lot of similarities between them, but the music is very different.

Re: Thanks for thirty years

I just found the Apollo gig online with virtually no effort. If you're so inclined, you can imagine what search terms might help you locate it. ;)

Can't tell you how excited I am to hear a gig recorded in that legendary venue. :)

Cool. That show is also available as a bootleg, I picked it up as a double CD down the barras market years ago.

Re: Interesting Alice interview in Rollin Stone

I met Alice backstage at Halloween 2010, having won VIP tickets through his site. I knew I only had one question for him, so I asked if he had any plans to bring back the Magic Screen. His answer was "See me on the next tour." That was Halloween 2011, but no screen. That, of course, wasn't an album ...

Re: what have you got from a gift.

My first Alice gig, in 2000, I found a Pete Friesen plectrum on the floor as I was leaving. Got a dollar bill at the Glasgow show before last year's. Last year in Glasgow, I caught two Steve Hunter picks and a Tommy Henriksen one. Caught the second Hunter one when a roadie threw it offstage at the e...

Re: Thanks for thirty years

They pulled the Apollo down before I was old enough to see anyone play there, which - as a Glaswegian and avid gig-goer - saddens me. My first gig was at the Barrowlands in 2000, and a year later I got second row of the stalls at the Edinburgh Playhouse. Seen him ten times now. I got into him after ...

Re: "A Big Announcement to Come in a Few Weeks"

Just curious.... Any of the members of Iron Maiden addicted to golf? Not famously addicted, but drummer Nicko McBrain and guitarist Dave Murray both play. Pretty sure it's Flight 666 that has footage of them teeing off. Nicko also got hit on the wrist with a ball mid-tour, which is documented in th...

Re: "A Big Announcement to Come in a Few Weeks"

Dadascot - Maiden's last studio album charted at number 4 in the USA, their highest position to date. If that's any indication for ya :) For the record, it went to number one in 28 countries worldwide. Grew up listening to Maiden, amassed a huge collection, but my enthusiasm has cooled lately. Where...

W2MN - Best Rock Album of 2011 on Fearnet.com

Not sure if this has been announced here yet, don't see it. I got the link from the Skinny Puppy facebook page. http://www.fearnet.com/news/b24794_best_of_2011_music_nsfw.html "Best Rock Album – Alice Cooper, Welcome 2 My Nightmare I think I've written more articles about Alice Cooper in 2011 than a...
