Re: "Road" - Reviews

What's your definition of huge? He's being sarcastic. "For he was born stubborn as well as stupid; and the harm which his stupidity might do, his stubbornness would hinder him from admitting. He was not a man to be persuaded; having few ideas, he clung to them. It was no use to argue with him, for ...

Re: "Road" - Reviews

I've never really thought of Alice's lyrics as being stupid. In fact, I think they are usually quite clever and often the strongest part of his music. There are several instances where, musically, he's dabbling in genres that I don't really care for, but his lyrics somehow turn the song into somethi...

Re: If You Could Interview Alice...

I would ask him if he would ever consider doing say a limited amount of "Deep Dive" shows where he played only deeper tracks such as doing say four or five songs off of the early 80s albums. Obviously not a long tour or anything but maybe say 5-10 cities. I've often wondered what artist's setlists ...

Re: "Road" - Reviews

Anyway Paranormal and Detroit Stories both by modern standards were huge successes for Alice. But now that I think about it Live From the Astroturf, A Paranormal Evening and Road haven't gotten the same promotion. Neither has the new Hollywood Vampires live album for that matter. Does anyone know h...

Re: "Road" - Reviews

One thing that I think Alice is missing from his oeuvre is a classic driving song. Something of the along the lines of I Can't Drive 55 or Radar Love. I guess Under My Wheels and Go Man Go are about as close as he ever got. Great songs, but they don't make me want to floor it going down the highway....

Re: "Road" - Reviews

The current band are hired hands (as all his bands are) paid to play live. I think Alice felt he owed it to them and along with the demand from fans decided to do the album with them. The results are a big steamer! So, on one hand they are just hired hands, and on the other it's all their fault tha...

Re: "Road" - Reviews

Nita Strauss in particular has been a game changer in the band. Besides her solo career (and a couple of high charting singles on the new album), her work with the WWE, the LA Rams, etc has brought Alice a lot of publicity because she gets a lot of coverage and is asked about Alice a lot or is show...

Re: "Road" - Reviews

I'm thinking more musical failure. This band was touted as his greatest touring band and there's just nothing there. It's just bog standard riffs and apart from one song nothing stands out. Lyrically it's a complete dud and production wise it's sterile an lifeless. There is not one song here I coul...

Re: Hypothetical Question-Would You Be Okay With Another Heavy Alice Album

I'd be down for a new ACG album. I liked most of the new songs that featured contributions by the original band members. Heck, I wouldn't complain if it sounded like something that came from a time capsule from 1972. I like Chuck Berry and I like Metallica. I'm cool with Chuck sounding like Chuck. T...

Re: Hypothetical Question-Would You Be Okay With Another Heavy Alice Album

I would love to hear another heavy album. Maybe one with an angrier attitude from Alice. Nita + Chcuk + Kane + Pissed off Alice = heavy metal gold. I love Paranormal and half of Detroit Stories. I like a few tracks off of Road and W2MN. My biggest complaint isn't about the music on the albums, it's ...

Re: How many times have you seen an Alice concert?

I actually used to go to concerts somewhat regularly. This was back in the 90s. I don't live too far from Nashville, but for a long time the main venue for concerts was an outdoor place called Starwood. It really sucked. Bad sound and bad crowds. I saw a lot of bands that would normally have been gr...

Re: How many times have you seen an Alice concert?

Why never again? Honestly, I just don't get out much. I had free tickets to his most recent Nashville show and still didn't go. I think I only went to a couple of concerts after that one. I saw Robin Trower at a little club, and Alice In Chains at the Ryman auditorium. Both of those shows were arou...

Just once. Back in 2007 in St. Charles Missouri. He was with Heaven and Hell. Queensryche was the opening act. Good show.

Re: Alice “Special Forces” interview.

It's all academic at this point, but it's fun to speculate on what could have been. I'm sure you're right about Alice's career being at its nadir, but I can't imagine he was viewed as being any more of a dinosaur than Jefferson Airplane or the Moody Blues, both of whom made surprising comebacks in t...

they said some of the new songs were rehearsed and ready to go when it's Alice headlining in october. as always, and as evident with both Paris 2017 and Hellfest 22 - I hope they do another concert film sooner rather than later, and that new songs from Road are featured in the set Total agreement w...

Re: Alice “Special Forces” interview.

How they never greased any palms to get Clones on heavy rotation is a complete mystery. That song should have been a monster hit. Yep. There are several songs on those early 80s albums that would have made good videos, imo. Dance Yourself To Death could have worked as a humorous "parents vs teenage...

double post. my bad. Well, since I already screwed up I might as well make something out of it. Funny, the little ...

Re: Alice “Special Forces” interview.

I was really talking about the early days of MTV, pre-Nightmare Returns. I think he could have turned his career around years sooner if had jumped on the bandwagon from day one. Bad artists could spend 5 bucks making a crummy video and still be in constant rotation on nationwide cable.
