Re: I still think Paranormal is mediocre........

I'm Pain wrote:It seems that the songs people seem most drawn to (Paranormal, Fireball, and the Sound of A) are the ones with a bit more of a serious tone. I thought W2MN was too heavy on the camp humor - which really made it unlistenable for me.
This hits the nail on the head.

Re: Alice Cooper Trivia Quiz

I scored an 8 but didn't see what I got wrong. I question the validity of some it. The question about ways he nearly died are matters of interpretation, he got hurt several of those ways listed. The question with Frank Sinatra recording You and Me was confusing, especially considering that it appear...

Re: Urban Myths

Don't forget the infamous Trouser Press article and interview where Alice says the f-word over and over many times. That one has already been discussed as being embellished by the author.... I missed that. Is that a definite fact that the author admitted or was Alice just in a weird mood that day?

Re: I still think Paranormal is mediocre........

Paranormal is a good album for a 70-year old rocker and aside from that just okay. Alice is leading a lifestyle today that isn't compatible with great creative output. Just comfortable, golfing every day, performing at night, shopping, spending time with family. What kind of creative angst or energy...

Re: vintage tv

I enjoyed the interview but agreed with the interviewer's suggestion that Alice should be modifying or extending the character and shows. Alice shot that down pretty quick, he seems to be in a habit that's working. But artistically speaking, I wish he'd branch out, try evolving the characterization ...

Re: 36 years today

Nice bootleg from the era captures the audience chanting Alice Alice over and over before the band goes into a fast-paced version of Under My Wheels. At the time I was glad to see that Alice still had rapid fans given his slide downward in terms of popularity.

Re: Identity Crisis.....

FTF - Monster start with TT then Clones (unfortunately neither written by Alice) and then uneven after that. C+ SF - Cool image and tour, love the Paris special. The album has several good songs but no great ones. C+ ZCS - First side is bland, terrible ending with pure baloney. Second side is so wil...

Re: The sound of A

There are many reasons I like Sound of A as a single. It's not "typical" Alice stuff that many casual music fans are used to, which means it's not heavy metal or thankfully one of the sappy ballads he released for so many years. It's a unique Alice song and plays on mystery and mystique with a nod t...

Re: The sound of A

I just listened to the song on YouTube. It's not bad; I think the melody is the song's best asset. First of all, the song was updated by Dennis and Alice for the album so it isn't identical to the original version. Also, it's a song originally from 1967 which predates the band becoming Alice Cooper...

Re: The sound of A

I'd certainly like to hear the demo if it's an ACG recording from 50 years ago and I'm pretty sure a great many others here would like to as well. I predict the original demo will have different lyrics and different song structure. As Alice moved in to his solo career his rock songs usually adopted...

Re: The sound of A

I love the song and video, it's quirky and atmospheric Alice and I like that better than cliche horror Alice. The video is among my favorites of his entire career. Thrilled at the choice of Sound of A but would have preferred Fireball, which is the best song on the album and when I play it for other...

Re: Classic rock best album

Nice that they picked Fireball. It'll be the best remembered song off Paranormal when the dust clears and a Cooper classic. Would like to see more like it in the future (nice to assume a man who will be in his 70s still has a future!).

Re: Change of set list...aye right!

Playing something live off DaDa would be the biggest show of respect to real Alice fans than anything else I can think of. If played with gusto it would be no less interesting to "casual" fans than deep cuts that aren't nearly as good like The World Needs Guts or Woman of Mass Distraction. Just imag...

Re: Change of set list...aye right!

I'm still waiting for Alice to get really crazy and do something like Levity Ball from PFY or even better ANYTHING (except I Love America, because it doesn't fit the theme) from DaDa, preferably Pass the Gun Around, which could be a live classic if played full-out musically.

Also liking PPB more with time. Sticks in my head. Fireball is amazing, a classic. Sound of A nice and mysterious, a good thing for Alice. Overall still liking the album.

I agree. I expected something horrible and instead I thought it was fine. Something different and a tribute to a classic song and performer.

Re: Great Interview With Alice on Rolling Stone Music Podcas

I agree it's hard for Alice to avoid just giving canned answers to questions. Things get redundant after a while. But the worst part is he keeps repeating lies as if they are true (chicken story, Sinatra singing his song You and Me, band break up, etc) and I wonder if he believes them at this point.

Re: Thoughts On And Ranking The New Album

I too was concerned that GAG might turn out to be a mistake for Alice if he turned up the comedy aspect too much. The song would have been in danger of having a mocking tone. As it stands I think he straddles the lines of humor and genuine compassion perfectly. Many of the main lyrics are about self...

Re: Your Favorite Alice album rankings from 2000 to Present

it's my least favorite because there are no AC albums I outright dislike. It's an OK album, just has the least amount of gems on it. I agree on Dragontown as a whole, but Deeper is my favorite cut on the album. I like the lyrics and imagery although the repeating chorus at the end is a bit monotono...
