Re: Kiss ?

I was thinking about Bowie's debt to Alice , and I'm not really sure how much Bowie actually owes because at the end of the day Bowie had his first hit in 1969 Space oddity , and was using make-up before this , he used to front a band called the Riot Squad in 68 and they wore it then ! he also did s...

Re: Kiss ?

For some reason I quite like Lady Ga Ga ,she's a writer and she has a genuinely good voice ! I'm fifty so I don't suppose she'd be really aiming for my vote , and like it or not you don't want to be into the same music as your mum n dad , my parents hated Bowie and Alice during the early seventies ,...

Re: Kiss ?

There is a foreword in the book by Mick Rock ,Blood and Glitter , by Bowie himself and he openly admits that glam rock was bookended by Alice and Kiss !

Mick Rock shot most of the onstage pics of Bowie as Ziggy !

It sounded pretty good , though it also sounded vocally like Souxsie of the Banshees ,who is one of my favorite singers anyway !

Re: Kiss ?

Hi Dada , I think you are spot on with view about influenced helping the influence in that the younger kids will want to delve deeper into their own favorite artists/bands to see what helped to shape them. I know that if not for my love of Bowie , I might never have heard Lou Reed , Iggy etc ,etc ! ...

Re: Kiss ?

This is my take on Kiss , I think that though they were influenced by Alice , I cant really see any similarities with them and Bowie ? I think they are far too upbeat to be in the Bowie mould , I feel Bowie tends to deal more with more dark subjects and isolation , though Alice also tends to play th...

Re: Kiss ?

Hi Dada God ,that's a fair point ,so really those 80s glam bands were more a result of Alice ,as were kiss , I suppose everyone is influenced by someone or other ?perhaps Alice was aware of Screamin J Hawkins ,more than say Lord Sutch or Arthur Brown ? the dramatics of Hawkins and the decadence of I...

Re: Kiss ?

Hi Bob , I think Bowie definitely had a good look at Alice and thought mmm outrageousness ,I'll go one step further and make it street level ,I suppose in the world of pop a good haircut always helps get the fans on-board ,I seem to remember when I was at school lots of people of both sexes had Zigg...

I'm just a little curious as to who Kiss have influenced ? never thought of them as being influential ? Dont get me wrong I quite like Kiss I think they are a bloody good band ! Alice is an influetial artist ,even though there were people doing similar things ,Lord Sutch, Arthur Brown ? though it ha...

Re: screaming lord sutch-alice mention

T rex were a great band , and for a couple of years were at the top of the pile ,but Cooper and Bowie were taken more serious , and were i m o far more of an influence on music scene !

Re: screaming lord sutch-alice mention

Til the following night by Lord Sutch is a really great record ! but the rest of his stuffs pretty shite ! even that album he did with top notch musicians i.e. Jimmy Page ,Jeff Beck and loads of others wasn't that great ! To be fair he's was never in Alice's league ! for me the only person who is ri...

I'm not too sure if its the same awards ceremony ,but I dont think Bowie even bothered turning up ? if I'm not mistaken Madonna accepted the award on his behalf !
So I'm guessing that the Coop couldn't care less ? :8):

Re: Michael Jackson gets the credit.....

Just going back to Lord Sutch, the track Til The Following Night is awesome !a Joe Meek production , Meek did some great work , the sound of the coffin lid opening was lifted by Jimmy Page for Zeps Whole lotta Love ! In Alice's defence none of the fore runners really had Alice's song writing skills h...
