Virtuoso guitarist Steve Vai first came together with Alice Cooper for the 'Hey Stoopid' album, playing the memorable duel solo with his teacher Joe Satriani. Alice had wanted him for the 1989 'Trash' band but David Coverdale had beaten him to it to sign Vai to Whitesnake. For his part Vai has mentioned in interviews the first album he ever learn to play in full was 'Love It To Death'.

A few years later they both played on a cover of The Beatles' 'Hey Bulldog' for the 'Butchering The Beatles' tribute album.

In December 1996 original Alice Cooper guitarist Glen Buxton interviewed Vai for the local TV show he was occasionally working with, 'Just Testing'.
